EAST Artists Tour

I finally made it out to the artists tour of other artists' studios. I started at neighbor and painter extraordinaire Jennifer Balkan's studio. She's so good, she can even make a painting of McDonald's food look good! Jennifer often uses bits of maps in her work, as in this one. Darn that flash, though! Another of the many awesome pieces of Jennifer Balkan's. She's currently included in this great invitational "Women Painting Women" show at Robert Lange Studio. You can see the show and read the articles from American Art Collector, ArtMag, & Art See at: http://www.robertlangestudios.com
These snapshots do not do justice to Jennifer's work. You gotta see this bunny in the paint! Check Jennifer's website at: http://www.jenniferbalkan.net/ to see how really awesome her work is. (Someday, I hope to buy one of her little micro paintings). Some new work by Shawn Camp. See that piece in the middle that you can't actually see, due to the Flash? When I saw that painting, it was like the lights dimmed around everything but that painting, and you could almost hear some schmaltzy romantic music...it is a really gorgeous piece (and soon, it will have a new home in our humble abode). :) Shawn Camp's paintings with Hank Waddell's sculptures. Shawn's paintings are so luscious; they are very thick with gorgeous paint, and I just want to roll in them (like in the movie "What Dreams May Come). His work also references the landscape from an aerial perspective.

Hank's work is so cool. He uses a lot of construction materials in his work, makes beautiful and intriguing sculptures in wood, bamboo, metal, foam and more. He also creates some very cool lead airplanes, and is always, always surprising. Here's Hank's site link: http://hankwaddell.com/gallery/
Hank's daughter provided amazing soup, cookies and other scrumptious snacks. Another of my favorite of Shawn's paintings. See more of his fabulous work at: http://www.shawncamp.net/index2.php

Description: It is truly a great idea that the EAST folks have organized a few weeknights where artists can visit other artists' studios. Sadly, I only made it to three, and I was having such an great conversation with Ines Batllo, that I completely forgot to take pictures there! See Ines' work at: http://www.inespaintings.com/ See the text under the following pics for info and links to Jennifer Balkan, Shawn Camp, and Hank Waddell.
