Passion and Other Flowers

I bought a purple passion flower vine several weeks ago. At $24.00, it was one of the more expensive plant purchases this summer. I've been picking caterpillars from it for weeks, and was in despair that their damage may have prevented it from ever blooming. 6/28/2010. Until yesterday, when the first purple passion flower finally bloomed (and then faded after about 6-8 hours). 6/28/2010. Today's passion flower. 6/28/2010.

Then I forgot to pick the caterpillars off for about a week or two, and they ate ALL the leaves! Some of the leaves coming back on the purple passion flower vine. The vine sacrificed its beauty temporarily so that perhaps a dozen caterpillars got to be butterflies. 9/6/2010. Meanwhile, in my neglected garden, little volunteer passion flowers have been blooming in multiples every day for weeks!
